Hi and welcome to my very first blog post! 🙂 I’m so excited to get back to writing and faithfully studying the Scriptures for wisdom in our daily lives. As many of you know, by God’s grace, I was able to complete my Master’s Degree in Biblical Counseling a couple of years ago. During my time in school, God also blessed us with the amazing and sanctifying roles as parents! As a result, I am not currently counseling in a formal setting, but I do hope to share everything I have learned with the world!
I originally named this blog “the call to counsel” because all of us are counselors whether we are “professional” or not. You see, every time your friend calls asking for advice, you deal with a family crisis, or even converse with your spouse and children, you are giving some kind of counsel. This counsel is either biblical or carnal. Unfortunately for most of us, our counsel is filled with worldly wisdom and we don’t even realize it. We have adopted worldly terminology, and exalted it high above Scripture. May God give us grace and mercy to see His truth!
Let me be honest, when I sat in my very first biblical counseling classes, I thought my professor was absolutely crazy. I wondered if he had ever sat in a “professional” psychology class. Praise God, He opened my eyes to the truth and sufficiency of Scripture. So many churches say in their statement of faith that the Scriptures are sufficient, but their counsel certainly doesn’t show it. Oftentimes, they don’t even counsel their own sheep, but send them out to “professionals.” O my dear brothers and sisters, let us see that God’s word is unchanging! His word is sufficient for all of the problems we face today. There is nothing new under the sun. Ask the Lord to give you wisdom, so that when you are speaking with others, your counsel will reflect the Word of God and bring glory to Him!
Now, I’m sure this isn’t a common way to begin a blog, but let me apologize. I admit that as I have grown and studied the Scriptures and learned how to identify false teachers, my pride has also grown. As a result, when I teach others, it has been in a very condescending manner. Friends, please forgive me. I’ve been very convicted by Paul’s letter to Timothy:
And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth” (2 Tim. 2:24-25 NKJV).
I admit that many of my posts will seem very controversial, mostly because it might seem like a completely new viewpoint to you. However, I ask that you prayerfully consider what I say and see if it aligns with the Word of God. Ask Him to open your eyes and teach you by His Word. Afterall, His Word is a feast. I’m so thankful you are on this journey with me! I’m excited to discuss what the Bible has to say about many everyday problems! May God be glorified!
